Cultural Walking & Boat tour “Following the steps of the Durrells”

Welcome to the enchanting island of Corfu! Our journey begins in the heart of Corfu at the famous Durrells spot, where we will start with a walking tour of the town. We will make a stop at the Town Hall square with its stunning Baroque Renaissance theatre of San Giacomo, dating back to the early 18th century. Continuing on, we’ll explore the Esplanade square, home to the most important monuments in Corfu town. Next, we’ll marvel at the stunning Liston buildings, adorned with French arcades, reminding us of the beauty of Rue de Rivoli in Paris. We’ll also visit the old Byzantine fortress, built in the 6th century AD and reinforced during the Venetian rule. This impressive citadel stood between the imposing rocks of the promontory, protecting Corfu from attacks.
We’ll then visit the charming Bosketo garden, dedicated to the famed authors Lawrence and Gerald Durrell, and enjoy the spectacular views of the fortress. Moving on, we’ll visit the elegant regency-style Palace of St. George and St. Michael, built during the British protectorate, with its stunning ionic peristyle.
No trip to Corfu is complete without visiting the venerated St. Spyridon church, the most important church on the island. Inside, we’ll find a small crypt with the relic of St. Spyridon laid within a silver gilt ebony casket.
After exploring the old and authentic Campielo area with its narrow alleys, Italianate houses, shady squares, and picturesque churches, our crew will be waiting for us on board our boat, where we’ll continue our journey along the coast.
As we sail, our expert crew will share their knowledge of the Durrell Family, taking us to the very spots where they filmed the successful Durrell’s series produced by Christopher Hall from 2016-2019. From the seaside, we’ll also catch a glimpse of the elegant Mon Repos Palace, where Prince Philip was born in 1921.
Our boat will take us to the idyllic Mouse Island and the white precious-looking Greek Orthodox Church of Vlacherna, both serving as landmarks of Corfu island. We’ll anchor at the beautiful island of Vidos, where we can enjoy the untouched nature and take a refreshing swim.
As we sail back, we’ll relax on board and listen to several short stories of the Durrells while taking in the picturesque east coast towards the North. We’ll see the stunning Venetian Villa in Kontokali, where they filmed the main part of the famous Durrell series, and we’ll spot the idyllic Chapel of Saint Arsenius, the favorite bathing area of Larry and Nancy Durrell.
Our tour will end in the charming village of Kalami, where we can enjoy an excellent lunch at the famous White House, where Lawrence Durrell lived with his wife Nancy in the 1930s. Combining a walking and sailing tour, this trip is a unique and unforgettable experience that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime!
