Boating With The Durrells – A Full Day Cultural Walking & Boat Tour from Corfu Town
Our tour of Corfu begins at the Durrells spot at the center of Corfu. We will stop for a while...
Enjoy an exclusive cruise tour to the unique Acherontas river on mainland. The Acheron is a river located in the Epirus region of northwest Greece. It is 52 km (32 mi) long, and its drainage area is 705 km2 (272 sq mi). Its source is near the village Zotiko, in the southwestern part of the Ioannina regional unit and it flows into the Ionian Sea in Ammoudia, near Parga.
We will moore at the colorful village of Parga, we will board in our modern buses and we will head to ammoudia for a mini cruise up the Acheron River. During the mini cruise, our guide will provide historical as well as mythological information of this beautiful river. In ancient Greek mythology, Acheron was known as the “river of woe”, and was one of the five rivers of the Greek underworld.
We will then head to Nekromanteion site. The Nekromanteion was an ancient Greek temple of necromancy devoted to Hades and Persephone. This site was believed by devotees to be the door to Hades, the realm of the dead. The site is at the meeting point of the Acheron, Pyriphlegethon and Cocytus rivers, believed to flow through and water the kingdom of Hades. The meaning of the names of the rivers has been interpreted to be “joyless”, “burning coals” and “lament”, respectively.
We will then drive till the river’s springs, a natura place where we will enjoy our meal and will have free time to walk in the river.
After this beautiful lunch break, we will take the return road to Parga, where we will have time to explore the village and the historical fortress or to have time to enjoy a coffee by the sea.
Our captain will be waiting for us to return back to Corfu.
